Every April, Lindenwood offers students the opportunity to present academic projects at the Student Research Conference. This week I joined a committee meeting consisting of faculty from colleges across Lindenwood University to discuss how the opportunity to participate in the conference prepares LU students for success after graduation.

One of the best parts of working hard is the satisfaction of doing a good job. What is even more satisfying is being recognized for that hard work. It is this special kind recognition that Dr. Shenika Harris received from President Porter in the most recent Town Hall meeting.

Graduating high school and getting ready for college is a very exciting phase in students’ lives. As summer ends and orientation week approaches, students get ready for move in day, think about how they are going to decorate their dorms, look up student organizations they would like to join, and connect with their peers to familiarize with the place they will soon get to call home.

Dr. Travis McMaken, professor of Philosophy and Religion and Assistant Dean of the School of Humanities, has recently been recognized as a person of positivity among Lindenwood’s faculty and staff. The “Person of Positivity” initiative was started by the faculty and staff at our university about a year ago.

On February 6 2021, associate English professor Dr. Justine Pas spoke at a virtual event titled “Personal Perspectives on Race, Privilege and Responsibility” that was part of Alpha Chi’s 2020-2021 Educational Initiative titled “... And Justice for All” Seeking Racial Equality. Dr. Pas was personally invited by Dr. Kathi Vosevich, the Vice President of Alpha Chi’s National Executive Council and dean of Lindenwood’s School of Humanities to speak about her personal experiences.

Lindenwood University announces Dr. Claude Steele as the keynote speaker for the Day of Dialogue, being held Weds, March 3. The Day of Dialogue is a campus-wide event where students, faculty, and staff can examine their individual and institutional role in building a shared community. This event supports the University’s educational mission by providing a space outside of the classroom to support academic and intellectual inquiry.  

Along the historic Main Street of St. Charles sits Sweet Poppins, a gourmet popcorn shop catering to the needs of their neighbors. Behind the delicious kernels is Erica Priest, a Lindenwood University alumna and small-business owner, who is committed to her community in many ways.

Lindenwood University announced it has earned the 2021-2022 Military Friendly School designation. Institutions earning the Military Friendly® School designation were evaluated using both public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey. Over 1,200 schools participated in the 2021-2022 survey with 747 earning the designation.

Lindenwood University will host the Spring 2021 Virtual Career and Internship Fair on Feb. 25 from 12-5 p.m. The event is free to attend and is open to all Lindenwood students and alumni. All participants should register on Handshake in advance of the event.

Lindenwood University student Tommy Sun was awarded a $20,000 scholarship to study abroad in Taiwan this upcoming summer. The scholarship is sponsored by Boren Awards, an organization that offers scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students to be culturally immersed in another country and learn a critical language that is useful to the government, some of them being Arabic, Chinese, Portuguese, and Swahili.
